IAN HALE

Executive Producer

Bio

Ian Hale has been a familiar face in the Perth film fraternity for more than 25 years in his capacity as State manager WA/SA/NT for Paramount Pictures and United International Pictures (Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks and Transmission Films).

Ian has built a formidable reputation over his years in the industry, not to mention a sound knowledge of and passion for film. During his career Ian has worked on hundreds of films, from local Australian productions to Oscar-winning Hollywood blockbusters. His true love has always been independent film - if he’s not working on a film, he can be found middle row at Luna Cinemas enjoying the latest releases.

He has worked as an Executive Producer on local films The Xrossing, Greenfield, Edward and Isabella, Before Dawn, Bassendream, Black Cockatoo Crisis and The Furnace, which was recently nominated for 5 AACTA Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay.

In 2013 Ian embarked on his own production as Managing Director of The Backlot Perth, a 50-seat, state-of-the-art cinema designed for not only for corporate film screenings and presentation use but also to service film makers with post-production and editing facilities.

In 2020 Ian started his own Distribution Company HALO Films to help WA films with no funding or distribution get made and find an audience. HALO Films has so far distributed local independent films The Xrossing, Greenfield, Documentary The Last Horns of Africa, and Edward and Isabella, with Bassendream and documentary Black Cockatoo Crisis also currently in production.

Ian has served on the Board of Directors for the Motion Picture Benevolent Fund for over 20 years and as a Board Member and Chairman of Revelation Perth International Film Festival for 8 years. In 2021 he was awarded the West Australian Cinema Pioneers Award by his industry peers for his outstanding service to Motion Picture Industry.
